From FBI to Five Eyes LTD: A Founder’s Mission to Redefine Cybersecurity for Business

Let’s be honest; cyber threats are no longer confined to headlines, as they are a daily reality for businesses, families, and entire industries. Criminal actors, nation-states, and opportunists are targeting organisations of every size, in every industry. What was once the concern of government agencies is now a top priority in the boardroom.

For me, this truth isn’t abstract. It has been my reality for over two and a half decades. I am Darren J. Mott, a retired Supervisory Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where I spent 20 years leading some of the nation’s most complex cybercrime and counterintelligence investigations. I managed squads of cyber agents and analysts across multiple field offices, worked on cases that crossed international boundaries, and saw firsthand how adversaries adapt and evolve.

That mission didn’t end when I retired. It simply evolved.

Building Five Eyes LTD: A New Chapter in Cyber Education and Resilience Development

The launch of Five Eyes LTD is the next phase of my professional journey. Alongside my business partners, we’ve built a company designed to bridge a gap that I saw time and again during my FBI career: businesses often recognise the importance of cybersecurity, but they lack the expertise, resources, or time actually to address it.

Five Eyes LTD was created to change that equation. We deliver cyber and commercial intelligence consulting, which includes, but is not limited to, risk assessments, penetration testing, intelligence analysis, and leadership advisory services tailored to organisations that may not have a Chief Information Security Officer or even a dedicated security team. By combining the perspectives of American law enforcement and the UK military intelligence, we bring clients a unique fusion of investigative precision, operational discipline, and real-world threat awareness.

In short, we make enterprise-level cybersecurity accessible to businesses that need it most.

Why My Background Matters

Cybersecurity isn’t just about technology; it’s about people, processes, and understanding the adversary. During my FBI career, I investigated cybercriminal organisations, tracked foreign intelligence services, and worked cases where the stakes often had national security implications. Those experiences taught me a critical lesson: every cyber incident has a story to tell. If you know how to read that story, you can see patterns, identify risks, and stop bad actors before they strike. That investigative mindset is what Five Eyes LTD brings to every engagement. Whether it’s a logistics company needing to comply with the UK’s new Cybersecurity and Resilience Bill, a law firm wondering if client data has been exposed on the dark web, or a mid-sized business recovering from ransomware, our approach is the same: gather facts, assess risk, build a defence, and guide leaders through decisions with clarity and confidence by helping them “Understand the threats targeting them!”

A Personal Mission: Educating Beyond the Boardroom

While cybersecurity consulting is the core of Five Eyes LTD, education remains a personal passion of mine. For years, I’ve worked to make cybersecurity understandable and actionable for audiences outside the technical world. I wrote Get Cyber Smart to help families protect themselves online. I created and hosted multiple podcasts (the most current one being “The Kingsman and The CyBUr Guy Podcast), and I frequently speak at conferences and in the media (Fox News, Newsmas and NewsNation, among others) about cyber threats. Why? Because I’ve seen too many victims who believed they were “too small to be a target.” That mindset is dangerous. Cybercriminals don’t discriminate; they go where the opportunities are. My role, both as an investigator and now as a business leader, is to cut through the noise and give people the knowledge to protect themselves.

What’s Next for Five Eyes LTD

Launching Five Eyes LTD isn’t just about starting another cybersecurity firm. It’s about reshaping how companies view and manage their risk. We believe cybersecurity should not be reactive; it should be proactive, continuous, and aligned with business strategy. That’s why we offer structured programs that scale with our clients, from baseline cyber risk assessments to fractional CISO leadership services. And because every organisation is unique, we design solutions that meet clients where they are today, while preparing them for tomorrow’s threats. This isn’t theory. It’s a practice, grounded in decades of investigative work and intelligence operations.

Let’s Talk About it

Cybersecurity doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be an endless drain on resources or an afterthought when something goes wrong. Done right, it can be a competitive advantage, building trust with clients, regulators, and partners. That’s the mission of Five Eyes LTD, and it’s why I’m proud to be one of its founders. If you’re a business leader who knows you need to take action on cybersecurity but aren’t sure where to start, I’d love to have a conversation. Whether it’s helping you understand your current risk, preparing your team through tabletop exercises, or giving you the peace of mind that your data is protected, Five Eyes LTD is here to guide you. Because in today’s world, knowledge is protection. And protecting what matters most isn’t optional; it’s essential.
